I litterally watched stringer after stringer pulled out this section. That's how delicate trout fisheries are, and this was a great example of what can happen in a matter of months. Which is a shame as these are unique species that spawn in the fall, most rainbow trout spawn during other of season.
Native Utah Cutthroat trout caught in 2010. Beautiful fish, however they are only found in some Utah fisherys, and there numbers are low when compared to Brown and Rainbow trout. Brown trout are the hardiest of the species, and thrive in most Utah rivers, streams and lakes. This was a huge fish caught off the side of the road on our way up to drift the Missouri river up north. The ironic part is that this was one of the biggest fish and by far the most stunning caught just outside of Utah.Luckily the water was crystal clear giving me the ability to capture a fair amount of detail.
Bright yellow brown trout with fins outlined in white. A smaller brown trout, but beautiful non the less. This fish was caught on the lower Provo river in hoover hole, and we caught several cookie cutters about this size there. Depending on where you fish on the lower dictates the species and size of the trout you catch much of the time. However, the lower Provo fishes well down the canyon and through the city of Provo Utah.
John Hershald with his first fish on a fly rod. As you can see the water was a bit off color but the fish on the Provo more than happy to feed on there insect of choice, the "Sow Bug". In high, off color water on the Provo river a brighter thread color works well when tying flies for fly fishing conditions such as these. We had a great day and the rainbows were out in force eager to eat, which puts any fisherman fishing any species in a good position to hook and land fish.
