Kirk Guided on the Lower Provo : Kirk, a Colorado fly fisherman in Park City to do some fly fishing and here to enjoy the luxuries of Stein Erickson lodge. We had a great start to what turned out to be a tough day of fishing. The day before yesterday we guided Monique and Craig in pretty much the same spots, which produced numerous fish, check out the guided trip with them here http://www.utahflyfishingpros.com/GuidedFlyFishingTrips/Lower-Provo/Monique-Fly-Fishing-The-Provo/19018887_pL2vfK#1478179616_DMPvTvZ Then today we hooked a big brown trout whiten the first 20 minutes and the next 3 hours we worked hard, moving, switching up flies, fishing the usual September bugs, but the fishing turned off like a light switch. I have always said, and having been trying to figure out why September is the most unpredictable month of fly fishing all year. Everything else was perfect, no river traffic, boats fisherman, etc.., and we had a beautiful fall day on our hands. So all in all it was great to be out and Kirk enjoyed himself, and fishing here in Utah despite the fish count. It's not all about the fish count, but a bit more action never hurt any fly fisherman I know of. So Kirk has an extra day to fly fish while in Utah, and is going to try his luck on the middle and possibly the lower Provo depending on how the middle Provo fishes. I told him we need a few more fish pics to make this a real album, but the shots we got are great. As I tell all clients on the days that require a bit more work, you end up learning a lot more, and technique becomes absolutely important. However, I threw the rod and gave it a good shot myself and when those fish shut down, they all shut down. It just never happens really in any other month than September. I told him to give the lower a shot tomorrow, things with the Provo can do a 180 and so he is set, with lower Provo techniques and a few guide bugs I gave him for tomorrow. Best of luck Kirk...

Monique Fly Fishing The Provo : Monique and Craig, today's fly fishing clients that drove into town to enjoy a beautiful September day of guided fly fishing on the lower Provo river. We had a spectacular day, I know I mention that a lot, but those are not words, the photos tell the story of the day much better than a thousand of my own words could ever convey. We arrived on the water at about 8:45 with the Provo spewing off steam, meaning the water was warmer than the air... I think that's how it works.. Craig smacked a few pigs right off the bat, three to be exact, and Monique was working on techniques still, but she eventually got it through persistence, as is required to learn the basics of nymph fishing techniques. You will see the rhythm of the day as you work through some great shots of the days events as they unfold, with fish after wild fish being hooked and then landed. Monique pulled off a meanuever just below the bridge where most clients get spooled by trout in above 16 inch range. After a hard fought, and a fish played to perfection, we landed a 18 inch wild brown. We caught an even number of both brown and Rainbow trout on the private section of the Provo we fished in the morning. Later in the afternoon, after a nice lunch with Mount Timp as the back drop, we moved down into the public section of the Provo river, where Monique started to even the fish count pulling off a hat trick in hoover hole, not to mention sticking one of the biggest bows of the day in a tricky section of water for the novice fly fisherman. The photos again are a fishing report in of themselves, fishing was great the entire day, slowing a bit toward 4:00.

Seth and Mia Family FlyFishing : Seth and Mia as well as the rest of the family planned a Park City Utah fly fishing trip on the Provo river about a month ago. Escaping New York City just in time, as Long Island has been hit by a earth quake and a tornado nearly at the same time, so they may be spending a bit more time in Park City than initially planned, which seemed to be just fine with Seth, a New York City doctor. The day arrived, the day of the fly fishing trip on the lower section of the Provo river, and we had a quite the adventure as always seems to be the case, The usual occurrences took place, plus a few new ones. Such as the being called on the division of wild life for trespassing, which is a waste of time for those that call as I have written permission to fish private waters, a major bonus of fishing with Park City Excursions fly fishing guide service, we have several private peaces of water that we have all to our own. As I was saying, every day on the Provo river is different, which makes being a fly fishing guide in Utah a great profession, with no 2 days alike, making guiding anything but boring, it's down right action packed. Misty, Cristy and Mom and Dad : Misty, Cristy and, Mom and Dad Fly fishing the Lower Provo river in late August. We had a fun day and had the usual thirills and spills. The water level has come down drastically. throwing the fish a bit out of wack or the guides, one of the two. I really loved this trip as I was wilt a group of bird watcher's and photographers, which I always love the ability to learn a bit from my clients. I saw mom with her binoculars om hhrt hsmf on more than one occasion, she still manged to land a few nice trout.

David Cowfer Guided Fly Fishing Trip : Day One of a 5 day fishing trip on Utah fly fishing waters. Today we fished the Lower Provo and caught some incredible trout. David landed 9 nice fish and David Junior 6, not a bad kick off, to a week of fly fishing Utah trout. More Photos coming soon! On day 2 we decided to move off the Provo as we had now graduated, and now earned the right to move onward to Utah's holier waters, to now experience the next level of Utah fly fishing opportunities. It turned out to be just that, again, we caught and landed incredible trout, as well found ourselves in the midst of full fledged PMD hatch that had the fish going off. David said just seeing this place is amazing, and now he was about to throw dries to a boil of Brown's, Rainbow's, Cutthroat, and Cutt-bow trout that were feeding heavily on the surface. Yesterday, we fished the Strawberry river and got dumped on, today we got back on target, fishing the Lower Provo in the morning and then around 2 p.m. we headed up to midway and fished the middle Provo. In both cases we had pretty consitant success with David Jr pulling off the fish of the day with an incredible brown trout landed on the middle Provo river. Enjoy a great week of trout pics with more to come as they extended a day to fish the Weber river, having fished some of Utah's finest wilderness fisheries, one cannot leave out the Weber river. Dan's Fly Fishing Adventure : August 24th evening guided fly fishing trip with Dan, in town to do some business, as well as to become familiar with the Provo river as he plans on being here often. Dan is a fly fisherman, like many of us fisherman, will take advantage of work situations that require us to travel, and course to fish, if and when possible. Dan got lucky as work brought him to one of the greatest rivers in the west, Utah's famed blue ribbon Provo river. We had a wonderful evening with some really good hook ups, break offs, and a few nice brown trout landed. The last fish we hooked up with was right at dark, and put up quite a battle bringing us down river about 50 yards. Will call it the miracle landing and the photos will give you an idea of our experience. Mike, Jan, Patsy and Friends Fly Fishing : An adventurous day fly fishing the Lower Provo river. We started the day crossing the Provo. As we crossed we loosed half the group to current of the Provo, and took a quick swim before learning to fly fish. I had no idea that was part of the plan, but for any fishing guide, no 2 days are alike. At-least, it was 94 degree hot August day, so nobody hypothermia and all was well. Afterwords we fished with a record number of tubers floating the Provo river. Despite the challenges of the day, we hooked several nice fish that showed us a side or 2 before leaving us empty handed. We did end up with a few smaller Provo river Brown trout in the net and overall had a wonderful afternoon on the water.

Father and Son The Hayes Family Fly Fishing Utah's Blue Ribbon Provo River : Fly Fishing trip on the Lower Provo River on July 25th 2011. Jeremy Hayes and his father drove into town from Dallas Texas to escape the hundred degree heat, to do some fly fishing on Utah's famed blue ribbon section of the Lower Provo river. They previously had done some fly fishing catching 10 tp 12 inches so they were amazed at the quality and size of these lower Provo monsters we hooked and landed in a few hours on the Provo. We had a great day with consistent action for the duration of time we fished. We hooked a couple Rainbow trout, and the rest were thick healthy Brown Trout, which from the looks of there lips at yet to be hooked this season. Each guy landed 4 to 5 fish, and lost several more. At one point I took a couple cast, hooked a Rainbow, which spit the hook on me and landed in a tree behind me. As we pulled the branch down, there was what appeared to be an abandoned bird nest. With the pressure built up from trying to reach are productive flies, we proceeded to add more pressure until I finnaly reached them. As we let go the branch we launched 5 babies out of the nest. To save the babies we spent a fare amount of time to return the birds back to there home unharmed. All and all it was an exciting day of fishing action with a bit a of baby bird recovery in the mix. Richard Lohmann Guided Provo River Trip : Doctor Richard, Fly Fishing on July 15th 2011 on the Lower and Middle Provo River. Water levels dropped significantly and my worry was that it may of had a negative effect on the fishing. However, quit the opposite took place. We got on the water and consistent action with fish on the entire five hours we fished. It was Richards first day with a fly rod in his hand, and he had an excellent day for never having fished a western river or thrown a fly rod. The Doc hooked into to 10 wild fish, with a couple dinks in the mix, but mostly big hungry trout, and much easier to target with water levels having stabilized. We spent the last hour on the middle where we picked up 2 fish and called it a day. We are set to fish day 2 on the Strawberry river, and will upload a album of the results Monday evening. Due to weather conditions we opted to fish the lower Provo again on a different section as apposed to the planned Strawberry river trip. The Strawberry turns into chocolate milk when it rains out there. So we stayed local and had another great day with several fish hooked and a few landed. We had a hard time keeping them on the size 20 hooks and they gave us the fin on several occasions. The weather turned out to be perfect despite the foretasted rain, and we stayed cool and dry.

Brad, Sam, and Grandpa Fly Fishing : Fly fishing trip on Utah's Lower Provo river with the San Francisco East bay crew. Just so happens Sam, Brad son went graduated from my Monte Vista High School, the same school I graduated from small world. The 4th of July Holiday crowds were out, but not hinder us from having a spectacular day fly fishing on the lower Provo river. We had a great day and Brad and Sam did well for there first time fishing in Utah. The photos tell the story better than I ever could with words, as they say and it's true from the feedback that I have already received. Jim Alex and John Fly Fishing the Provo : Jim, Alex, and John getting there first opportunity to fish and took advantage of there time on the water. It's pretty great to see such young men having the opportunity to learn fly fishing skills and have the experience of hooking and landing some great wild trout on Utah's Provo river. We had a wonderful day and hooked and lost several nice fish. Utah fly fishing youth, memories of your first trout on a fly rod will are not likely to ever leave the minds of these boys and will be some of the best memories that life has to offer, at-least if they get the fishing bug as I did as a young man fishing in the great north west in Seattle Washinton. Even with river flows at the highest I have seen in the ten years of fishing and guiding on the Provo river, we made it happen, which again the story is told through the photograph's below. Enjoy!

Brian Fly Fishing the Lower Provo : Brian on a guided Fly Fishing to the lower Provo river on June 11th 2011. A few photos from our trip on what was a beautiful summer day and we had the river just about to ourselves. The fish are adjusting to water flows as well as the aquatic insects resulting in a weak hatch never really never fully developed to put the trout into a " feeding frenzy " per say. The fish where consistently taking our flies around 2:00 in the afternoon, which was the most productive part of the day yesterday, and the Provo river flows are at an Ideal level running at about 500 cfs. The day turned out great with a few nice fish landed and a few that snapped the line on a hard runs down river. Another great day fishing the lower Provo river.

Fly Fishing the Lower Provo River | Kevin, Family and Friends May 27th 2011 : Provo river fly fishing guide trip on the 27th of May 2011. Kevin, his 3 sons and some friends all got together while here on a trip from Flagstaff Arizona to do some fly fishing for a day. We fished the lower Provo river near the Sundance resort turn off. Mark and the crew drove and met us on the river at 9:30, putting us on the water and doing the demo at about ten. The river is maxed out and flows are high, so it took us to get a rather large group situated and fishing. The first half hour started off a bit slow, which is normal when you have 6 people that a just learning the basics of nymph fishing. After that fishing picked up and we were on the fish the rest the morning. After loosing several flies early on due to high flows and getting the hang of setting and then wrangling big trout, both rainbow's and browns we started getting some nice fish to the net. We had great success for for limited time on the Provo and six beginners, and considering it took me ten full days fishing the Provo river in my first year with a fly rod to land my first trout fly fishing. A great may day fishing with good friends, family and a couple Provo river fly fishing guides / Utah Fly Fishing Pros, or fishing fanatics / Crazy Utah Fishing guides, I guess we are all those things and more, so book your trip and experience " Utah Fly Fishing at it's Best".. Terry 2 days fly fishing Utah : Terry contacted me a few weeks ago about putting a few days together to fish a few different locations here in Utah. He arrived on the 27th of April after a 700 mile drive to fish Utah waters. We fished 2 rivers in 2 days, and were able to experience some pretty great stuff, fishing and otherwise. Dustin and Lyndsy Fly Fishing the Lower Provo River : Dustin and Lyndsay here in Utah from San Diego California, to do some fly fishing on the Provo River. We fished the Lower Provo and had an absolutely great day. Fishing started out a bit slow, however for about an hour straight we could not keep the fish off the hook. We caught fish in 4 out of the 5 spots we fished and caught both brown and rainbow trout averaging 16 to 17 inches. Lyndsay got hooked on a fly fishing on a trip to Montana a few years back. A trip in which the fishing was outstanding and she caught tons of trout with a fly rod. Mike Supersaud Fly-Fishing on the Lower Provo River : The 2 Mikes hit the water today, the 13th of April. We hooked into a nice rainbow on our third cast and thought we were off and running. However, the Provo decided to toughen the game for fear of a lack respect for her mighty trout waters. We got the point and put are work in for our second fish with a couple our gap in between hook ups. Midge and a mild blue wing olive hatch came off during our time on the water, so there was plenty of activity in aquatic insect department. Overall it was a beautiful day of fly-fishing with the usual up's and down's that fishing can be sure to offer a man.
