Provo River Middle section that runs through the Heber Valley. It is referred to as the Middle Provo due to it's location between 2 of Park City's nearby reservoir's. This footage was captured on September 24th 2010. Jack came to Park City Utah on a 2 week long excursion through the west. Park City was is final location and where he choose to Fly fish for the first time out west. We had an incredible day of fishing, we fished nymphs a bit in the morning, size 24 may flies, and then switched to dry flies around 10:30 a.m. Fish were highly active chasing Caddis flies as they bounced off the water. We caught several nice Brown Trout and one Big Beautiful monster Brown, putting a nice finish on our already amazing day. The Fly Fishing Masters was held on a public section of the middle Provo River with access acquired and chosen by Mike McMahon. Mike was dealt the challenging task of finding a location on the middle Provo river to pull off a Fly Fishing Masters competition without drawing crowds which would have been the demise of the entire event.. Other requirements such as the acquiring a section of public river with enough water to create 4 beats to fly-fish for 4 days. Each beat represents roughly a half mile section of river where the competitors were to compete during the competition. Mike's choice for choosing the particular section of the Provo he choose was the fact that it is not known to the majority of fisherman even though it is smack dab in the middle of the public section of the middle Provo, The experience of seasoned guide is worth it's wait in gold when it comes to pulling off an operation such as a 4 day competition in the middle of the famed Provo without anyone catching wind of the operation. The location turned out to be a success due to the size of the event, few if any Utah anglers even new the event took place. A miracle for a section of the tail water fishery that is only a few miles from reservoir to reservoir, For this reason Mike's superior knowledge of the Provo river was not only indispensable but the reason that this event was even possible in the first place. At the Zermont Lodge in Midway Utah, a meeting was held with Versus, the film crew, contestants, judges, anglers, and everybody else involved. The biggest worry to the Versus film crew was creating crowds which would have put an end to the entire production immediately. Due to the fact it was on public land this put a large amount of fear into the main investors of the production. The shear numbers of people involved was staggering. With close to a hundred competitors, staff, film crew, judges etc, it was no tiny little film shoot you could sneek in and leave. We had 4 days in front of us, with each day came new challenges." Hiding a broadcasting company the size of Versus, literally right under the noses of Utah's fly fishing community, was a challenging pleasure" "Not to mention right in the middle of July, the peak of the fly-fishing season here in Utah, was a feat that would have even impressed David Copperfield"'. However, the project did come with it's stresses as taking on such a huge project does not come without a fair amount of stress, but it worked out and overall the Utah Fly Fishing Masters was a success, and much was learned.
